About

Independent analysis.
No conflicts. No noise.

Mare Analytics is a shipping intelligence platform based in Athens, Greece. We publish monthly freight market research for the institutions and professionals that allocate capital to shipping.

Shipping is one of the world's most capital-intensive industries. Every year, billions of dollars move through vessel acquisitions, newbuilding orders, secured lending, and fleet restructurings. Yet the analytical infrastructure supporting those decisions has always been concentrated in a handful of large brokers and data providers — institutions with their own commercial interests, their own deal flow, and their own reasons to frame the market in a particular way.

Mare Analytics was founded to fill a different space: independent, conflict-free research written specifically for the people who allocate capital to shipping — not for the operators who move cargo through it. We write for shipping banks assessing loan collateral, for private equity funds evaluating asset cycle timing, for shipowners making fleet decisions without a brokerage desk telling them what to think, and for financial advisors and maritime professionals who need a clear, data-backed view of the market.

The analysis that moves shipping capital should be owned by the people deploying that capital — not by the intermediaries earning commission on the transactions it generates.

Our analytical framework is built from the ground up around a single question: what does this data mean for a capital decision? Not what does it mean for a voyage, a cargo, or a fixture — but for a loan, an acquisition, a valuation, or an investment thesis. That framing changes everything about how you read a freight market.

We are based in Athens — the centre of gravity of the global shipowning community — and we draw on the full spectrum of publicly available and licensed data: Clarksons Research, the Baltic Exchange, UN Comtrade, IEA, EIA, NBS China, USDA, MacroMicro, and the MMi iron ore indices published daily on Hellenic Shipping News. Every variable we use is cited. Every source is disclosed.

Mare Analytics is not a broker. We hold no vessel positions. We receive no revenue from shipyards, operators, or freight intermediaries. Our commercial model is simple: a €50/month premium subscription and bespoke commissioned work. Our only interest is in producing the most accurate and useful analysis we can.

01
Independence above all
Every analytical call is made without reference to brokerage revenue, deal flow, or client relationships. If the market is bearish, we say so. If an asset class looks overvalued, we say so. Our only obligation is accuracy.
02
Show your working
Every variable cited, every source named, every model assumption disclosed. We publish our analytical framework openly so readers can assess our reasoning — not just our conclusions. Black-box analysis is not analysis.
03
Calibrated confidence
We never present a directional call without a stated conviction level. High conviction calls are rare and backed by multiple confirming signals. Low conviction is disclosed honestly. Overconfidence is the most common failure mode in market analysis.
04
Capital-structure lens
Every piece of analysis asks the same question first: what does this mean for a capital decision? Rate movements, asset values, fleet dynamics — all filtered through the perspective of someone deploying or protecting capital, not moving cargo.
05
Quantitative rigour
Directional views backed by statistical models: OLS regression, VAR analysis, regime-switching classifiers, Monte Carlo simulation. Opinions supported by data. Narratives tested against numbers. We build our models in the open and update them as evidence accumulates.
06
Accessible pricing
Institutional-grade analysis should not require an institutional budget. At €50/month we aim to be accessible to the individual analyst, the small family office, and the emerging fund — not just the tier-one bank with a six-figure data budget.
